Your members’ ongoing participation with your coaching programs is essential for driving lasting change in your organization. This article will show you how to nudge members throughout the coaching journey for maximum engagement.
When to do this:
When too much time goes by without taking the next step in a coaching journey, we recommend reaching out to stalled members with a personalized reminder email.
Steps to complete:
- View your list of members by clicking Admin > Members
- Click the Stalled members filter at the top of the list
- Select All to see all stalled members, or choose to filter by a particular status
- Select Nudge to send a customizable reminder email to these members from PAD
- Alternatively, you can Copy emails and compose a reminder in your email client
- Select Send to all members stalled within your selected filters if you would like to nudge more stalled members than fit on a single page of Member List.
How long is a member inactive before they’re considered stalled?
Our goal is to help you maintain a healthy activation funnel. Any member who remains in a status longer than the typical standard across our customers is considered stalled. The specific number of days depends on the stage a member is at in their program. Here’s how we’ve defined stalled members for each stage of a coaching journey:
Stalled members with Lead
- Invited - an invited member has not activated their account within 5 days
- Activated - an activated member has not completed their onboarding assessment within 2 days
- Completed onboarding - a member completed onboarding more than 2 days ago, and does not have an upcoming coaching session scheduled
- Started coaching - a member completed their first session, has not had a coaching session in the past 14 days, and does not have an upcoming coaching session scheduled
- Reflection Point assigned - a member has not completed their Reflection Point assessment within 10 days of assignment
- Reflection Point completed - a member has completed their Reflection Point assessment, has not had a coaching session in the past 14 days, and does not have an upcoming coaching session scheduled
Stalled members with BetterUp Manage™
- Invited - the invited member has not activated their account within 7 days
- Activated - an activated member has not completed their onboarding assessment within 2 days
- Completed onboarding - a member completed their onboarding assessment more than 2 days ago, and does not have an upcoming coaching session scheduled
- Started coaching - a member has completed their first coaching session and was assigned a Development Plan more than 7 days ago, but has not begun working on their Plan

What does a pending session mean?
A pending session means that the coaching session between the member and coach has taken place, but the completion of the coaching session is still waiting to be confirmed by the coach. Until a Coach confirms the session, sessions are shown in parentheses as Pending.
