At BetterUp we know that excellence is a habit that can be developed through learnable behaviors. We conducted an exhaustive review of business and psychological research, identifying a core set of behaviors you can develop to become more effective at work. Great employees thrive cognitively, socially, and emotionally, and motivate, guide, and include others in their roles as formal or informal leaders.
Utilize the 360 Review process to gain an understanding of your current strengths and future areas for development by requesting feedback from your colleagues. The Whole Person 360 takes about 20 minutes to complete.
The Whole Person 360 will prompt you to request feedback from the following contributors:
- Your direct manager (required)
- Two or more coworkers that you work with frequently (required)
- Any number of your direct reports (optional)
360s have become a very popular tool for coaching and development over the past 30 years, with the majority of large companies using them in some form. BetterUp’s approach is unique from the ways most companies use 360s. We’ve built our 360 feedback process from the ground up with a developmental focus, and centered on our Whole Person Model.
Whole Person 360 Methodology
For your 360, we collect data from you and your co-workers to gather feedback on 15 key behaviors from the people you work with most frequently. We convert your scores to a scale centered around 50, with scores falling above 62 equating to strong performance, scores between 38 and 62 signaling average performance, and scores below 38 indicating a development area. In addition, your scores are broken down by your own ratings, ratings from your direct manager, direct reports (if applicable), and other coworkers to help you compare perceptions across these groups.

360 Extensions
When a Whole Person 360 assessment is completed by a BetterUp Member, the invited contributors will receive an email to complete their feedback. If a contributor hasn't completed the feedback, they will receive another notification a week later. From there, if their portion is still pending completion, they will receive another reminder on day 12. If, after two weeks, the minimum number of contributors is not met, a one-week 360 extension will be automatically granted.
If the minimum contributions are still not met after that additional week, the member and the coach will receive an email from BetterUp with that update. From there, we recommend that members contact support to get additional assistance. Our team will provide an additional 360 extension and resend the invitation to any unresponded contributors.
Please note that to ensure that we are maintaining confidentiality we are unable to share who has or hasn’t responded to the Whole Person 360. However, we are happy to resend the 360 requests to any unresponded contributors.
Editing and Adding Contributors
If you would like to add a new contributor to your Whole Person 360 Assessment, please reach out to support with the names of the new contributors and their emails, as well as their working relationship to you (i.e., manager, direct report, or co-worker). Our team will manually add them to your 360 assessment.

Manager Hasn’t Completed 360
In order for the Whole Person 360 report to generate there needs to be a minimum of three respondents, one of which must be a manager. Please see 360 Extensions for additional context.
When managers are unable to complete their feedback, we recommend one or both of the following:
-
Contacting your manager by emphasizing the value this feedback will add to your professional growth throughout the coaching program.
- Here is a sample script: "As you know, I am participating in BetterUp coaching to increase my impact at work. I really value your perspective, and it would mean a lot to me to get your feedback on my strengths and areas for improvement. BetterUp has sent you an invitation to participate in my coaching by providing some lightweight feedback. Is this something you are able to do in the next week? If not, is there a better time?"
- Identify a colleague that is in a more senior position that acts as a mentor to you who could provide similar feedback. Once you have identified your new "acting manager," please contact support so we can add that person to your contributor list as soon as possible.
