When you onboard at BetterUp, you are taken through an onboarding assessment called the Core Strengths Assessment. Once you complete the Core Strengths Assessment, the assessment is generated and called the Whole Person Strengths Report. If you've already completed the assessment, you will not receive a new assessment should you onboard again, however, you can retake the Core Strengths Assessment at any time. (Please see Retaking the Core Strengths Assessment for details.)
Your Whole Person Strengths Report is a starting point for increasing self-awareness. Calculated based on your Core Strengths Assessment responses, it provides insight into how you're doing in each of the 25 Whole Person Skills (Dimensions). These skills are thoroughly researched concepts that will help you better understand how you show up in both work and life.
Typically your coach will go over your Whole Person Strengths Report in your second session with them. They will provide you with a debrief on the report. BetterUp Coaches are fully trained on our assessments and will walk you through any specific questions you might have.
Your Whole Person skills will be measured periodically over the course of your BetterUp program through Reflection Points.

FAQs
Q: How do I interpret my Whole Person Strengths Report?
A: Please connect with your coach to debrief your Whole Person Strengths Report. Your coach is fully trained on the Whole Person Model. Scores are based on a standardized scale centered around 50 as the average.
61-100: Strength
40-60: Potential strength
0-39: Development area
Q: Can I have the set of questions and answers from your assessments?
A: Please work with your coach to review responses to your assessment; they have access to the individual questions and your responses to them. Our assessment questions are proprietary and confidential business information and therefore we do not provide specific questions. Your coach does have access to your response report, is fully trained on the onboarding assessment, and in one of your coaching sessions can walk you through your responses as well as answer any specific questions you might have about this information.
Q: Can I trust my results?
A: Self-reported assessments, when controlled through statistical tools for distorting incentives and properly validated items (i.e., questions), have been shown to be effective in a wide range of disciplines including health sciences and social sciences. It's important to take these results for what they are - one additional perspective on your progress toward your goals. There are certainly factors outside of BetterUp that may impact your results and we encourage you to use them as a self-awareness tool to continue to strive for lasting positive changes in your life.
Q: What is the origin of these 25 skills?
A: The concepts included in the Whole Person Model were derived from decades of academic research in the fields of organizational, developmental, and positive psychology. BetterUp’s Science Board identified the top 25 concepts with the strongest research evidence for supporting personal Thriving and Inspiring others. We believe that everyone is a whole-person no matter where they score in these 25 areas. Rather, the term “whole person” is a reference to our belief that sustainable personal growth comes from changing your attitudes and beliefs, and not just your external behaviors.
Q: When two or more strengths have the same score, how is their ranking determined?
A: Identical scores in the Whole Person Strengths Report are ranked and ordered alphabetically.
