BetterUp Direct is our program offering coaching to individuals everywhere and from all walks of life! BetterUp Direct is a subscription-based service that allows members to subscribe and manage their plan and coaching journey on their own, with or without an employer. BetterUp Certified Coaches took part in a rigorous training intensive where they studied under BetterUp’s top coaches and some of the coaching industry’s premier experts. As a company, not all of our coaches have ICF certifications, we have many coaches who have equivalent training and coaching hours and go through the exact same rigorous interview and onboarding process.
Through a careful vetting process, BetterUp accepts just 9% of coach applicants to our platform to ensure the highest quality experience for our members. You can learn more about the accredited community that makes up BetterUp’s coaches as well here.

How to Know if Coaching is Right for You
When you feel like you are functioning well overall and want to set goals to help you develop a greater sense of drive, improve your agility to bounce back from setbacks, feel more satisfied with your life, or improve your relationships - coaching may be a great fit for you. When you feel like the day-to-day is starting to get tough, or the bad days are outnumbering the good ones, therapy may help you dive deeper and find clarity and healing.

Our coaches can support you on everything from creating better habits to reaching your personal and professional goals. Through a careful vetting process, BetterUp accepts just 9% of coach applicants to our platform to ensure the highest quality experience for our members.
Coach Matching
Coaches are presented to you after completing an onboarding assessment.
From the list of up to eighteen coaches provided to you, you can select a coach and schedule your first session with one of those coaches. You may change your coach at any time for future sessions. Although we have a large network of coaches, coaches are offering services on different or multiple programs and may not have availability. As such, we are not able to accommodate specific coach requests.
BetterUp Direct Plans
We offer a few different plan options that vary in the quantity of coaching sessions and types. These plan options and pricing are subject to change and may vary over time, although we do not have a schedule for when those changes may occur.
| Intro Plan | Includes one 30-minute coaching session a month with your personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches as well as access to our learning library and assessments. |
| Plus Plan | Includes two 30-minute sessions a month with a personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches. |
| Premium Plan | Includes four 30-minute sessions a month with a personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches. |

If you were previously on an employer sponsored program but would like to transition to BetterUp Direct, please contact support so that we can make plan options and details available to you within your subscription page.

BetterUp Direct is currently offered on a monthly subscription. The "month term" begins the date of purchase. For example, if you sign up on June 15, the month term is June 15 - July 14. The next monthly payment would be on July 15.
HSA/FSA
Currently, BetterUp is not covered by HSA/FSA. However, it may be covered through an employer benefits program such as tuition reimbursement or education stipend. Please connect with your employer to see if that option is available.
Coaching Vs Therapy
Therapy (also known as psychotherapy, counseling, or “Talk therapy”) is similar to coaching in some ways. Both use evidence-based techniques and intentional dialogue as the primary tools for growth and discovery, but there are also key differences between the services:
- Coaching focuses primarily on the present and future, while therapy focuses on the past, present, and future.
- Coaching is focused on personal growth and professional development, while therapy is designed to help you work through deeper issues such as anxiety, depression, or trauma.
BetterUp does not provide therapy to BetterUp members.
Coaching Vs Consulting
At BetterUp, we offer coaching not consulting. A consultant holds the answers, while a coach helps their member find their own answers while guiding and providing direction along the way. Coaches guide their member through different challenges whether or not that is primary coaching or specialty coaching like nutrition coaching etc.
