How to configure the Slack integration with BetterUp – BetterUp

Getting members to engage with their coaching benefit shouldn't require extra steps. The BetterUp Slack Integration removes friction by bringing BetterUp into the tool your employees use every day.

Configuration Instructions

Use these steps to configure the Slack integration for the first time or to reauthorize access to enable AI Coach in Slack.

How to Authorize Your Account

Login to your BetterUp Partner account and click the Profile circle in the upper right corner of the app.
Navigate to the Account Settings page
Click the Integrations tab

Click the Configure Integrations link on the Slack card.
Click allow on the next page. You have successfully configured the Slack bot.

How to Reauthorize Your Account

Login to your BetterUp Partner account and click the Profile circle in the upper right corner of the app.
Navigate to the Account Settings page
Click the Integrations tab

Click the Configure Integrations link on the Slack card.
Click the Reauthorize button to connect your Slack Workspace.

Click allow on the next page. You have successfully configured the Slack bot.

Additional Information

What's the difference between configuring and reauthorizing? Configuring sets up the Slack integration for the first time. Reauthorizing is for accounts that already have the Slack integration but need to grant additional permissions to enable AI Coach in Slack.

If you've previously configured the Slack integration and want members to have access to AI Coach in Slack, follow the steps above to reauthorize access.

FAQ

What happens when a member no longer has a BetterUp license? Do we deprovision them? Does the app go away?

Members can still see or add the BetterUp app in their Slack workspace even after their license expires. When they open the app, they will see a clear message indicating they no longer have an active account. BetterUp does not automatically remove the app from a member's Slack instance.

If your organization wants to control who has access to the BetterUp app, your Slack workspace administrator can manage app availability at the workspace level. Members can also remove the app from their own Slack instance themselves.

What will members see if they don't have access to AI Coach?

If a member's organization has not enabled AI coaching, they will see a message indicating that AI features are turned off for their organization. They can still receive other BetterUp notifications through Slack, such as session reminders and coach messages, depending on their product experience. Members should reach out to their internal program administrator for more information about AI Coach access.
