About the BetterUp Whole Person 360
At BetterUp we know that excellence is a habit that can be developed through learnable behaviors. We conducted an exhaustive review of business and psychological research, identifying a core set of behaviors you can develop to become more effective at work. Great employees thrive cognitively, socially, and emotionally, and motivate, guide, and include others in their roles as formal or informal leaders.
You can use the 360 Review process to gain an understanding of your current strengths and future areas for development by requesting feedback from your colleagues. The Whole Person 360 takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Participants of the Whole Person 360 will be asked to gather feedback from at least 4 contributors, which can include:
- Your direct manager (may be required depending on your program)
- Coworkers with whom you frequently interact
- Any of your direct reports
Over the past three decades, 360 reviews have become a staple in the coaching and development toolkit of many large organizations. What sets BetterUp’s implementation apart is our developmental emphasis and the integration of our Whole Person Model, ensuring a more holistic approach to feedback.
Whole Person 360 Methodology
Your 360 review collates feedback on 15 behaviors from your most frequent collaborators. This breakdown includes comparisons between your self-assessment and feedback from your assessment contributors, providing a comprehensive perspective on different perceptions. These perspectives can be discussed with your coach in your coaching sessions to help you find alignment between your self-assessment and the feedback of your contributors.
360 Extensions
After a BetterUp Member initiates a Whole Person 360 assessment, the chosen contributors are notified via email to provide their feedback. Contributors who haven't submitted their feedback will receive a follow-up reminder after one week, and then another on the 12th day if their feedback is still pending. Should the required minimum number of contributors not be reached within two weeks, an automatic one-week extension for the 360 assessment is applied. A final reminder will be sent to the contributor 24 hours before the deadline for the assessment.
It's important to note that in order to protect confidentiality, we cannot disclose the response status of individual contributors for the Whole Person 360. However, we can resend the invitation to any contributors who have yet to respond.
Editing and Adding Contributors
Members will add contributors at the start of the 360 process by adding the contributor's email and the role of the contributor (e.g., direct report, other coworker, or manager).
Members may want to add more contributors after the fact. As long as the report has not yet expired or been generated, we can manually add additional contributors.
Members will need to reach out to our member support team support@betterup.co with the following information:
- The email of the contributor(s)
- The “role” of the contributor(s) (e.g., direct report or other/coworker) of the contributor(s) being added
Please note that once contributors have been added, they cannot be removed.
Manager Hasn’t Completed 360
To compile a Whole Person 360 report, at least three respondents are needed, including one manager if required by your program. For further details, refer to the section on 360 Extensions.
If your manager has not yet provided their feedback and it is required, consider the following steps:
- Directly Communicate with Your Manager: Stress the importance of their feedback for your professional development within the coaching program.
- Nominate an Alternative Senior Colleague: If your manager is unavailable, select a senior colleague or mentor who can offer similar insights. After choosing an alternative "acting manager," contact support so that we can update your list of contributors accordingly.
360 Review Process
The goal of the 360 Review process is to help guide you toward your full leadership potential. This report represents a snapshot of how you and your colleagues view your current strengths and areas of development as a leader. You and your coach will use this tool to:
