Our AI technology will find your top three coach matches from our global network based on the information you provide when setting up your BetterUp account. You have the ability to connect with your coach at your convenience, right from your phone for flexible 1:1 virtual video sessions.
What leads to the most impactful coaching is openness to the process and consistency of sessions--making this investment in yourself! With this in mind, we encourage you to select the coach that resonates most with you and schedule your first session. We've found that the first session can be incredibly helpful, as it allows members the space to ask questions and learn more information about the coach's background that may not have been included in the brief bio presented. For tips on selecting a coach, see our Help Center article: What should I look for when selecting a coach? Also, please know that you can change coaches at any time! If at any time you would like to connect with a different coach, you are welcome to explore more coach options.
How To Select A Coach
Before your first session, know that your BetterUp Coach is in your corner. Our coaches support you on everything from creating better habits to reaching your personal and professional goals. What you talk about is up to you and everything is 100% confidential. In your first video coaching session, you and your coach will get to know one another and explore what coaching is and how it can help you achieve your goals. In your following sessions, your coach will be an unbiased partner, helping you answer questions that will guide you on your path to growth and success.
The following instructions will walk you through selecting a coach from any of the different coaching types BetterUp has to offer. If you have already selected a coach and would like to try a new coach, please see the instructions in the section “Trying Another Coach"
- Log in to the BetterUp at app.betterup.co
- Click Discover
- Select the type of coaching of your choice
- Click Find a coach
- You will be directed to a coach matching assessment
- Review the three coach profiles and select a coach
- Select a time that you would like to meet with your coach
- Click Confirm
- You have scheduled your first session with your new coach!
If you would like to see more coach options:
- Click explore more coaches on the right side of the page
- If on mobile, click the 3 dots (...) in the upper right corner)
- Click Explore more coaches
- Click Continue
- From there, you will be asked additional questions
- Once you have submitted this information, an email will be sent to you titled, “You have new coach options!”
- If there are coach matches available, the email received will contain additional coach options.
- Click See new coach matches in that email
- If there are no coach matches available based on the information provided in the previous questions, our Customer Support Team will curate a list of coaches for you to choose from.
If you are unable to select a coach, we recommend attempting those steps on a desktop device (or via a web browser on your mobile device). This should allow you to successfully review and select a coach. Once you have selected your coach, you’ll be able to return to the mobile app and fully access BetterUp going forward.
After you have explored more coach options in the BetterUp app, if you are still unable to find a coach that meets your needs, we welcome you to contact support. Our team will be sure to curate a new set of coaches for you.
Trying Another Coach
We are happy to do all that we can to ensure that you have a successful coaching journey at BetterUp! If you believe that you and your coach are not a good fit, you have the option of choosing another coach. If you have not booked a session with a coach already, please see the instructions in the above section “How to Select a Coach.”
We recommend completing the following steps on a web browser:
- Log in to BetterUp
- Scroll down to the “Coaching” section
- Select your coach
- If you are on the web browser: Click Try another coach (on the left side of the page)
- If you are on the BetterUp mobile app: Click on the three dots (...) and Click Try another coach
- If you are on the BetterUp mobile app: Click on the three dots (...) and Click Try another coach
- Click Select my coach
- If you are on a web browser, you will also have to click Start
- Review the three coach profiles and select the coach that resonates best with you and schedule a time with that coach.
- If after reviewing those three additional coach options, you would still like to view more coaches, we recommend opening up your browser to see even more coach options. To do that, you must follow steps 1-5 and follow the below steps:
- Click explore more coaches on the right side of the page
- From there, you will be asked some additional questions
- Once you have submitted this information, an email will be sent to you titled, “You have new coach options!” Open that email.
- If there are coach matches are available, the email received will contain additional coach options.
- Click on See new coach matches in that email
- Click on See new coach matches in that email
- If there are no coach matches available based on the information provided in the previous questions, our Customer Support Team will curate a list of coaches for you to choose from.

This should allow you to successfully review and select a coach. Once you have selected your coach, you’ll be able to return to the mobile app and fully access BetterUp going forward.

Coach Availability
If a BetterUp Coach that you would like to connect with does not have availability that matches your preferences, we encourage you to find a time that does work for you on their schedule and to schedule a session. Once you have done that, you will be able to send your new coach a message and see if they are able to accommodate a session on a date/time that may not be listed on their calendar. They may be able to accommodate the certain time slot that you are looking for.
If you and your coach are not a fit based on schedule differences, please contact support. We will personally source a few new coach options for your review that would better fit your timezone or availability. When reaching out, let us know a few details about what you’re looking for in a coach and we will help curate a list of coaches with similar styles or backgrounds
Reconnecting With A Previous Coach
We are happy to hear that you had a great experience with your past coach! If you would like to be reconnected with a previous coach, please contact support to see if this is a possibility.
