At BetterUp, we believe that excellence is not just innate but can be cultivated through specific, learnable behaviors. Our comprehensive analysis of both business and psychological research has led us to identify key behaviors that enhance workplace effectiveness. We recognize that outstanding performers excel not only intellectually but also socially and emotionally, inspiring and leading those around them, regardless of their formal position.
For those enrolled in a BetterUp program featuring this assessment, the 360 Feedback process offers a valuable opportunity to understand your strengths and areas for growth. This process, taking roughly 20 minutes, involves soliciting feedback from colleagues to provide a well-rounded view of your performance. Members taking part in this assessment will not only receive quantitative scores but also open-ended feedback from their team.
Participants of the 360 Feedback will be asked to gather feedback from at least 4 contributors, which can include:
- Your direct manager (may be required depending on your program)
- Coworkers with whom you frequently interact
- Any of your direct reports
Over the past three decades, 360 reviews have become a staple in the coaching and development toolkit of many large organizations. What sets BetterUp’s implementation apart is our developmental emphasis and the integration of our Whole Person Model, ensuring a more holistic approach to feedback.
Please be aware that 360 Feedback is exclusive to members of BetterUp programs that include this feature. If you are accessing BetterUp as an individual member, refer to our guidance on BetterUp for Individuals Assessments for more information.

360 Feedback Methodology
Your 360 Feedback collates feedback on 17 behaviors from your most frequent collaborators. This breakdown includes comparisons between your self-assessment and feedback from your assessment contributors, providing a comprehensive perspective on different perceptions. These perspectives can be discussed with your coach in your coaching sessions to help you find alignment between your self-assessment and the feedback of your contributors.
360 Feedback Process
If your BetterUp program includes 360 Feedback, it will appear in the “Up Next” section of both the BetterUp app and website. Begin by selecting the Start Your 360 Review prompt.
Should you not find the assessment directly:
- Log into BetterUp and navigate to the Insights section at the top of the page.
- Select the Feedback overview tab
- Initiate your 360 Review by clicking Request 360 feedback
- You’ll need to request feedback from at least four individuals. Your program may also require you to request feedback from your manager. Enter their email addresses in the provided fields, using commas to separate multiple addresses. Please note that there is a limit of 25 total contributors who can be requested to provide feedback for the assessment.
A minimum of three responses is required for the 360 Feedback report to be generated. If you encounter delays in receiving feedback, see the section on 360 Extensions below for guidance on how to proceed.
Once all required feedback has been received and the report generated, feedback will be grouped into Managers, Peers, and Direct Reports. As always, all feedback remains fully anonymous.
360 Extensions
After a BetterUp Member initiates a 360 Feedback assessment, the chosen contributors are notified via email to provide their feedback. Contributors who haven't submitted their feedback will receive a follow-up reminder after one week, and then another on the 12th day if their feedback is still pending. Should the required minimum number of contributors not be reached within two weeks, an automatic one-week extension for the 360 assessment is applied. A final reminder will be sent to the contributor 24 hours before the deadline for the assessment.
It's important to note that in order to protect confidentiality, we cannot disclose the response status of individual contributors for the 360 Feedback. However, we can resend the invitation to any contributors who have yet to respond.
Editing & Adding Contributors
Members will add contributors at the start of the 360 process by adding the contributor's email and the role of the contributor (e.g., direct report, other coworker, or manager). Members may want to add more contributors after the fact, and can do so directly from the Feedback overview tab!
Please note that there is a limit of 25 total contributors who can be requested to provide feedback for the assessment, and all contributors must be added within 2 weeks from the original start date of the feedback assessment.
Members will need the below information when adding contributors:
- The email of the contributor(s)
- The “role” of the contributor(s) (e.g., direct report or other/coworker) of the contributor(s) being added
To add a new contributor, please follow the below steps:
- Log into BetterUp and navigate to the Insights tab at the top of the page
- Select the Feedback overview tab
- Under Status, select the dropdown arrow
- Click Add contributors
- You'll be able to view a list of your current contributors as well as add new contributors here!
Please note that once contributors have been added, they cannot be removed.
When contributors receive a 360 feedback request email, they can add a reminder directly to their calendar with one click. The calendar invite includes:
A 30-minute time block scheduled for the next business day at 9 AM in the contributor's timezone
A direct link to complete the feedback
Event title: "Complete 360 Feedback for [member name]"
Works with all major calendar apps (Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar)
