BetterUp for Individuals is currently offered on a monthly subscription. The "month term" begins the date of purchase. For example, if you sign up on June 15, the month term is June 15 - July 14. The next monthly payment would be on July 15.
BetterUp Plans & Subscription Lengths
BetterUp for Individuals offers the following plans:
Intro Plan: Includes one 30-minute coaching session a month with your personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches as well as access to our learning library and assessments.
Plus Plan: Includes two - 30-minute coaching sessions a month with your personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches as well as access to our learning library and assessments
Premium Plan: Includes four 30-minute sessions a month with a personal coach, or our Speciality Coaches
*The Speciality Coaching verticals included are (Working Parents Coaching, Nutrition Coaching, Navigating Uncertainty Coaching, Diversity & Inclusion Coaching, Communication Coaching, Sleep, Navigating Grief, Supporting Others in Grief, Well-Being Habits and Career Growth)
BetterUp for Individuals offers different plan options at various subscription lengths. Sessions for the subscription plans are all on a monthly basis.
Session Rollover: If you do not complete all of your monthly sessions, they will rollover into flex sessions. This means you won't miss out if you are unable to use a session in a given month. You can have up to 12 sessions rollover into flex sessions at a time. Flex sessions expire after a year or if you cancel your subscription.
*Please note, unused sessions prior to March 7th, 2024 do not rollover.
Late Cancellations: If you attempt to reschedule a session within 24 hours of its start time, it can only be canceled, not rescheduled. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice will result in the loss of that session.
Important: Bi-annual and annual plans allow the pre-purchase of multiple months of service in advance. Please note, these subscription lengths are non-refundable and the plan type cannot be changed.
Here are the three different subscription lengths we offer:
Monthly Subscription: Your access to BetterUp for Individuals Coaching is available on a monthly recurring subscription. Bi-Annual Subscription: Your access to BetterUp for Individuals Coaching is available on a bi-annual (six-month) recurring subscription. Payment processes on the same date every six months. |
The bi-annual option is not eligible for plan changes after purchase. This option provides you with six months of the services offered in the subscription plan chosen. |
Annual Subscription: Your access to BetterUp for Individuals Coaching is available on an annual (12-month) recurring subscription. Payment processes on the same date every 12 months. |
The annual option is not eligible for plan changes after purchase. The annual option provides you with 12 months of the services offered in the subscription plan chosen. |
Updating Your Subscription Plan
Subscription plans may be changed at any time! Changes to subscription plans take effect at the start of your next billing date.
Here are the steps to update your subscription plan:
- Navigate to your BetterUp account on a web browser
- Click on your avatar on the top right corner of the page
- Click Account

Click Subscription
- This page will show your current subscription and by scrolling down you can view other subscription options available. Select the new plan by clicking Switch on the plan of your choice.
- You will receive a message about your update before confirming your change.
Schedule Switch Details:
- If your subscription is scheduled to switch, you will not have access to pause your subscription
- If you are scheduled to switch you still have the ability to cancel your subscription
- If you wish to keep your subscription before the schedule change happens, you can choose to stay on your current plan on the subscription management page
Upgrading details:

Your sessions will not be canceled if you are upgrading to a plan with the same session length (i.e. 30-minute sessions)

If you are upgrading to a plan with 45-minute sessions then all future sessions will be canceled; we encourage you to schedule your new sessions as soon as possible
- If you want to have more sessions before your subscription upgrades, you can purchase flex sessions in your account.
Downgrading details:
- When you downgrade, we will cancel any sessions in subsequent billing cycles that exceed the maximum allowed by your new plan.
- You will not receive a refund for any unused sessions and we ask that you complete the sessions in your current cycle.

If you are downgrading from a plan with 45-minute sessions to a plan with 30-minute sessions then all future sessions will be canceled; we encourage you to schedule your new sessions as soon as possible
Existing Flex Sessions:
- When you upgrade, if you have scheduled future sessions with flex sessions we swap those appointments out with the additional “monthly” appointments that are added to your plan. The flex sessions are then added back to your account.
- When you downgrade, if you have scheduled future sessions with flex sessions, we do not cancel the sessions that have been booked with credits, even if you are over your monthly limit.

Pausing Your Monthly Subscription
We offer the option of pausing monthly BetterUp for Individuals subscriptions. Pausing your subscription will ensure that your payment will not be processed for the billing dates selected. Subscriptions will be paused for your choice of 30 days, 60 days, or 90 days. The pause will go into effect at the end of your month of service and prior to payment on your next billing date. To resume your subscription before the pause end date please reach out to Support. Once the time period has been implemented for a pause, extensions and adjustments can not be made to the pause duration.
The subscription will resume after the selected pause period ends and payment for your plan will be processed. Please note that pausing your subscription will prevent access to messaging, scheduling, and holding sessions with your coach. Any previously scheduled sessions during the pause will be canceled.
Example scenario: Your billing date is the 5th of each month and you select a 30-day pause on your subscription on December 28. On January 5th, the 30-day pause will begin, no payment will be processed & access to messaging or scheduling with your coach will no longer be available. On February 5th, the subscription will resume and payment for your plan will be processed.

Canceling Your Subscription
We are sad to see you go but we want you to know that if you choose to return to coaching we will be here for you. By logging in with the email associated with your account and password, you can pick up right where you left off.
You may cancel at any time through the Subscription page within the Settings of your account. Cancellation is for the next monthly payment and is not retroactive. For example; if your payment date is July 15 and you cancel the account on August 2, the account will automatically cancel after August 14 and a new payment will not be processed for the next month of service.
Refunds are not available for unused sessions, time, or services. If you cancel after your monthly subscription payment is processed, you may finish the month of service utilizing the available coaching sessions and curated content that matches your profile. Any remaining unused sessions will expire and be lost when the subscription plan cancelation takes effect.
If you would like to cancel, please follow the steps below:
- Navigate to your BetterUp account on a web browser
- Click on your avatar on the top right corner of the page and click Account
- Click Subscription
- Click the three ellipses (...) and click Cancel

Upon cancellation, the system will ensure your next monthly subscription payment is not processed. You will maintain access to your account and remaining coaching sessions for the duration of the billing cycle. All future scheduled sessions beyond the cancelation date will be canceled. Access to messaging and scheduling with your coach(es) will be removed after the billing cycle has lapsed. Please note that we cannot guarantee the same coach will be available in the future.
Removing Your Upcoming Subscription Cancellation
If you've decided to cancel your subscription, but have now changed your mind and want to remove your upcoming cancellation, no problem! You can continue with your BetterUp for Individuals subscription by following the steps below:
- Navigate to your BetterUp account on a web browser
- Click on your avatar on the top right corner of the page and click Account
- Click Subscription
- Click Keep My Subscription >
- Click Confirm
- After you click Confirm, your subscription will then be renewed as originally scheduled
