BetterUp is integrated with Microsoft Teams, so members can chat with their coach, manage coaching sessions, and use our always-on AI Coaching (subject to your organization's GenAI permissions) directly within their flow of work. Whether you're seeking clarity, building new habits, or preparing for a tough conversation, you can get instant advice and support without leaving Teams.
You can now type directly to your coach in the Teams chat. Just send a message, and BetterUp routes it to the right place based on your coaching program. If your message does not match a specific command, it goes straight to your AI coach, so you can start a conversation with one message.
Please note that some aspects of BetterUp in Microsoft Teams may not appear in the EU version of the app.

- If you’re installing the app on your own: Click “Add” for the BetterUp or BetterUp EU app
- If you don’t see the BetterUp app at all, reach out to your internal program manager for BetterUp or contact your IT administrator.

Using BetterUp in Teams
You can type directly in the chat to talk with your coach. To see the list of available commands, type "Help" or select "View prompts". The options you see are tailored to your coaching program.
Message your coach: Get support on your goals, challenges, or tough conversations. Where your message goes depends on your program:
- AI Coaching only: Your message goes to your AI Coach. You can practice role plays, get personalized advice, or receive recommended resources right within Teams.
- Human coach only: Your message goes to your human coach so you can share updates, ask questions, or stay connected between sessions.
- Both AI and human coaching: Your message goes to your human coach. You will also see a note that you can message your AI Coach anytime, and members with both plans have a separate "Message AI coach" option.
Schedule: Check your upcoming coaching sessions at a glance, and reschedule or make updates directly from Teams. If you have AI Coaching, you can also view or book time with your AI Coach. If you have both, you can see your human and AI Coaching appointments in one place.
Help: See all the commands available to you and what each one does.
Tip: Any message that does not match a command is treated as a message to your AI Coach (if AI Coaching is enabled for your organization). That means you can start chatting with your AI Coach with a single message.
Starting a New Conversation: In Teams, your coaching happens in one ongoing chat, so BetterUp helps mark where an old conversation ends and a new one begins. You do not need to do anything to keep a conversation going. Here is how it works:
- Same day: If you reply within 24 hours of your first message, you stay in the same conversation, no questions asked.
- New topic later on: If more than 24 hours have passed and your new message looks like a different topic, BetterUp starts a fresh chat so it can stay focused. You will see a message like: "Looks like a new topic. I'm starting a new chat so we can focus on this one. Your earlier conversation is still in BetterUp if you want to continue it."
- After a week: If your last conversation started more than 7 days ago, BetterUp automatically starts a new chat. You will see a message like: "Picking up here in a new chat to keep things focused. Your earlier conversation is still in BetterUp if you want to continue it."
You can also start a new conversation yourself at any time. Just type "New chat", "New conversation", or "New convo", and BetterUp will begin a fresh chat.
Your earlier conversations are always saved in BetterUp, so you can return to them whenever you want.

How do I know if I have access to the AI coach?
A simple rule of thumb: if you can chat with the AI Coach on BetterUp’s website or mobile app, you should also have access in the Teams app. For the Teams app, there is no additional steps required from you once your organization’s IT team has configured the BetterUp app in Teams.
How do I start a chat with the AI coach?
If your plan includes AI Coaching, just type a message in the chat and it goes to your AI Coach. Typing "Help" or selecting "View prompts" shows all the options available to you.
How do conversations work over time? Will my chat expire?
Your chat does not simply expire. If you reply within 24 hours, you continue in the same conversation. If more than 24 hours have passed and your message looks like a new topic, BetterUp starts a fresh chat. After 7 days, BetterUp automatically starts a new chat. You can also start a new conversation anytime by typing "New chat" or "New conversation." Your earlier conversations are always saved in BetterUp.
