BetterUp Members are able to schedule single sessions or recurring sessions on the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour depending on your program details. As a new member on the BetterUp platform, you can schedule a session with your coach as early as 24 hours in advance of an available time on the coach’s calendar. Once you have completed your first session, you will then be able to schedule future sessions up to four hours in advance. This will vary depending on your coach’s availability. Session Length and Cadence
Your ability to book specific session lengths at a particular cadence is dependent on your type of Coach and/or your organization's unique program details.

*We recommend scheduling 30-minute weekly sessions or 45-minute sessions every two weeks. Whatever you choose, you are welcome to reschedule your recurring sessions by increasing or decreasing your frequency to find what works best for you and the goals you are working towards with your coach. At times, your upcoming BetterUp session might come at a challenging moment—a busy day at work, a significant life event, a looming deadline, etc. While it sometimes feels difficult to carve out room for coaching in the midst of all this, some members find this is the best time to connect with their coach! A consistent routine with your scheduled sessions can make all the difference.
How to Schedule a Single Session
How to schedule a single session or first session with your coach:
- From the BetterUp home page, scroll down to “Coaching” section

Select the coach you would like to schedule a session with from your available options
- you can also select “Explore Coaching” to browse by coaching type
- you can also select “Explore Coaching” to browse by coaching type
- Click Schedule
- Select the date and time you'd like to schedule your session
- Select a session length (30 or 45-minutes) from the drop-down menu (Please note that first sessions typically default to 45-minutes. Additionally some programs do not offer 45-minute sessions and this can vary from program to program)
- Click Confirm
Please note that if this is your first session, you will only be able to schedule a single session. After you’ve completed your first session, you can set it to be a recurring session if you’ve found a great time that works for you and your coach!
How to Schedule Recurring Sessions
Please note that Extended Network Coaching does not currently allow for recurring sessions. Care Coaching allows for recurring, bi-weekly sessions only.
Additionally, if you already have an existing recurring session, but would like to book a new recurring session, you can either reschedule or cancel your existing recurring session by following the instructions in this article. If canceling your recurring session, you'll need to follow the instructions below to schedule your new recurring session.
Recurring sessions can only be scheduled following your first session on the BetterUp platform with your Primary Coach. If you have not completed your first session on the platform, you will be able to set your sessions on a recurring basis after your first session by following these steps:
- From the BetterUp home page, scroll down to “Coaching” section
- Select your primary coach to schedule a recurring session
- Click Schedule. You will be able to view the coach’s available dates/times.

From the drop-down, select whether you would like:
- 30-minute weekly sessions or
- 45-minute sessions every two weeks
- Select a date and time that works for you
- Choose your session cadence (once, every week, or every two weeks)
- Click Confirm
Please note that not all programs on the BetterUp platform allow for 45-minute sessions. Additionally, scheduling recurring sessions is only possible with primary coaches at this time.
Session Attendance Policy: Missing 3 recurring or one-off sessions in a row with your dedicated Coach (including no-shows, or canceling or rescheduling less than 24 hours in advance) will automatically remove all subsequent recurring sessions with that Coach from your schedule. You’ll still be able to schedule new sessions with your Coach at a time that works better for you.

How to Join a Session
Please note you will not receive an email with a link to your upcoming session. You will need to log in to your BetterUp account and will be able to launch your session five minutes before it’s scheduled to begin.
You'll see a “Join now” button appear at the top of your screen. Click on this to launch your session.
You will also receive these session reminders/notifications:
- An email notification when the session is created
- An email notification 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to start
- An SMS 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to start
Please note that if your preferred contact method is set to phone (US and Canada only), you will not see the in-app "join now" button. If you would like to update your preferred contact method, please see these instructions.
You may be the first to join your session, so please be patient and allow your coach up to 10 minutes to arrive. Though rare, if at that point you have not heard from your coach, please send them an in-app message and contact support.
