BetterUp Members are able to schedule single sessions or recurring sessions on the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour. As a new member on the BetterUp platform, you can schedule a session with your coach as early as 24 hours in advance of an available time on the coach’s calendar. Once you have completed your first session, you will then be able to schedule future sessions up to four hours in advance. This will vary depending on your coach’s availability.
We recommend scheduling 30-minute weekly sessions or 45-minute sessions every two weeks. Whatever you choose, you are welcome to reschedule your recurring sessions by increasing or decreasing your frequency to find what works best for you and the goals you are working towards with your coach. At times, your upcoming BetterUp session might come at a challenging moment—a busy day at work, a significant life event, a looming deadline, etc. While it sometimes feels difficult to carve out room for coaching in the midst of all this, some members find this is the best time to connect with their coach! A consistent routine with your scheduled sessions can make all the difference.
Please note that not all programs on the BetterUp platform allow for 45-minute sessions.
How to Schedule a Single Session
How to schedule a single session or first session with your coach:
- From the BetterUp home page, scroll down to “Coaching” section
- Select the coach you would like to schedule a session with from your available options
- you can also select “Explore Coaching” to browse by coaching type
- you can also select “Explore Coaching” to browse by coaching type
- Click Schedule
- Select the date and time you'd like to schedule your session
- Select a session length (30 or 45-minutes) from the drop-down menu (Please note that first sessions typically default to 45-minutes. Additionally some programs do not offer 45-minute sessions and this can vary from program to program)
- Click Confirm
Please note that if this is your first session, you will only be able to schedule a single session. After you’ve completed your first session, you can set it to be a recurring session if you’ve found a great time that works for you and your coach!
How to Schedule Recurring Sessions
Recurring sessions can only be scheduled following your first session on the BetterUp platform with your primary coach. If you have not completed your first session on the platform, you will be able to set your sessions on a recurring basis after your first session by following these steps:
- From the BetterUp home page, scroll down to “Coaching” section
- Select your primary coach to schedule a recurring session
- Click Schedule. You will be able to view the coach’s available dates/times.
- From the drop-down, select whether you would like:
- 30-minute weekly sessions or
- 45-minute sessions every two weeks
- Select a date and time that works for you
- Choose your session cadence (once, every week, or every two weeks)
- Click Confirm
Please note that not all programs on the BetterUp platform allow for 45-minute sessions. Additionally, scheduling recurring sessions is only possible with primary coaches at this time.
Session Attendance Policy: Missing 3 recurring or one-off sessions in a row with your dedicated Coach (including no-shows, or canceling or rescheduling less than 24 hours in advance) will automatically remove all subsequent recurring sessions with that Coach from your schedule. You’ll still be able to schedule new sessions with your Coach at a time that works better for you.

How to Join a Session
You will receive these session reminders/notifications:
- An email notification when the session is created
- An email notification 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to start
- An SMS 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to start
Once you have logged in to your BetterUp account, you’ll be able to launch your session five minutes before it is scheduled to begin.
You'll see a “Join now” button appear at the top of your screen. Click on this to launch your session.
Please note that if your preferred contact method is set to phone, you will not see the in-app "join now" button. If you would like to update your preferred contact method, please see these instructions.
You may be the first to join your session, so please be patient and allow your coach up to 10 minutes to arrive. Though rare, if at that point you have not heard from your coach, please send them an in-app message and contact support.
How to Cancel or Reschedule a Session
You have the ability to reschedule, cancel or adjust your session length within the BetterUp platform. Please note that to adjust the session length, you will need to reschedule your session.
To reschedule, adjust your session length, or cancel a single session or recurring sessions from within your BetterUp profile, you can follow these steps:
- From the your BetterUp account, click Schedule
- Click on an upcoming session
- Click “Cancel Session”or“Reschedule” based on your preference. (If you are editing a session length, click “Reschedule”)
- If it is a recurring session, you will be asked if you would like this change to apply to “This session only” or “This and all future sessions.”
- If you choose to reschedule, you’ll be brought to your coach's schedule. Select the new session time and session length. You can toggle the session length by clicking on the drop-down at the bottom of the calendar
- Confirm your changes!
Please note that if you’re using an external calendar, these changes will not update your existing appointments. You will need to manually delete/re-add appointments accordingly. Also, canceling or declining the meeting in your external calendar will NOT cancel your session, as this must be done via the BetterUp platform.
If a coaching session is canceled or rescheduled less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time, it is considered a late cancellation or late reschedule. Please note that if you are on a time-limited program, late cancellations also count toward your total program usage

Coach Missed a Session
Please contact support if your coach misses a session. Our team will reach out to your coach to check in, as it is rare for a coach to miss a session. We will be sure to ask that your coach follow up with you directly via in-app messaging to reschedule your session as soon as possible.
Running Late for a Session
If you are running late for a scheduled session time but still plan to attend, we highly recommend using the in-app messenger to let your coach know. Please note that if you are a few minutes late, the time you originally scheduled your session and the length of your session still remains the same, regardless of the time you join. For instance, if you have a 30-minute session scheduled at 3 pm, but join at 3:04 pm, your session will still wrap up at 3:30 pm.
